Science currently recognizes animals as sentient, capable of feeling negative and positive emotions. Consequently, people have become more concerned with issues of animal welfare, quality of life and comprehensive health, which include the mental health of non-human animals. Therefore, the objective of this study is to present, through a literature review, clinical indicators that can assist in the diagnosis of equine mental health. In this study, it is presented that there are similarities between the semiology of physical and mental diseases; it is necessary to know the context of manifestations and behavioral signs and to perform other physical and complementary exams for the diagnosis of equine mental health. Depression and anxiety disorders were used as examples for the construction of this study.
